Overview:
In July 2021, an entrepreneur & business student reached out to me to work on a new idea for a music app.
My Contribution:
I was asked to create the first version of the app.
I was involved in the concept creation and the user interface design.
Unfortunately, this version of the app didn't launch but it was a great learning opportunity.
How I was introduced to the project
The idea that the client had is associated with the assumption that each song we listen to is linked to a past situation, memory or motivation.
Why people share music and how?
To validate this idea, and find how we would turn this into a digital product we interviewed 20 people aged between 17-35 years old selected after a screener survey.
Key Insights
1-Music accompanies them almost all the time.
2-That's why they get bored from the same playlists and want to explore new songs.
3-Sharing playlists is usually trough links sent to whatsapp or social media channels
4-They love sharing songs with people because they link music to events, feelings or memories
5-Music is a sociable experience: Music provides identity and the opportunity to tell others who they are
Sketching & Testing ideas
With knowledge gleaned from the user flows, site map, and associations shown by the card sort, I sketched out wireframes. For the first round, I hand-drew the basic layout based on the suggested user flow.

Iterating upon the first prototype
After the peers interaction with the mockups and the user feedback we collected, we adjusted the app flow.

The 5 insights collected from the testing were:
1-Sharing the game by WhatsApp was not convenient, gamers want to share the game pin in-app.
2-The players didn’t understand how the game begins, so we introduced it to them using an onboarding flow.
3-Playing random music from their playlists is not engaging & they prefer to suggest a song themselves based on the chosen situation.
4-The players had a difficulty knowing when the next player turn begins.
5-The player wanted to stop the music anytime and choose another one.

Moodboard & Style Guide
We wanted to give the app a playful style while making the user feel the music vibes. drew inspiration from music shows and lightning, the monochromatic, purple-dominant color scheme is typically associated with exploration and mystery.

Results, learnings & reflections
1-Results
However the app didn't launch it's version 1 due to problems in the development phase, but all users expressed an interest in using the app. This means POGO successfully addresses the desire to make music a more fun sociable experience.
2-Learnings & client feedback
"We contacted Yara to help us design our POGO app. She was able to understand our ideas and convey them in her work. Yara had a real impact on the progress of our application. Thanks to her harmonious designs, we were able to produce a high quality product, pleasant and easy to use. We're very happy with this first experience with her!!
Tom Grd Georges founder of Pogo
In this project I learned to prioritize ideas. Time constraints forced us to narrow the scope of our project, and to focus on the app main goal rather than including multiple desired features.
